Comparing Editorial Comment

1. Consider why people return to the same newspaper title repeatedly and feel that it represents their own views that they can identify with. How is this particularly obvious with the comment page.

People return to the same newspaper because it holds the same opinions on it, and they also trust the information that they acquire (this could possibly be from reading the same paper for numerous of years/times, therefore you believe that the information is trustworthy). This is obvious with the comments page, as 'The Daily Mail's' comments page is again informal and does not hold as much information and statistics as 'The Guardian' newspaper comments does, as The Guardian is more information based and they hold a lot of statistics and references, they are also usually non-biased,and look at all aspects of the story. Where as The Daily Mail is more biased and they like to repeat themselves, and also they like to give only one side of a story.

2. Which paper might satisfy the audience's need for entertainment the most? What kind of escapism does it offer readers and which articles provide the most entertainment.

The Daily Mail would satisfy the audience's need for entertainment the most, because they are more informal, and the majority of their stories are about celebrities and their lives (the latest scandals etc... ). The Guardian paper is more factual then it is entertaining, due to all of the information and statistics that it holds. The informal language can be more entertaining due to it being more casual.

3. Reading newspapers is informative because it explores current affairs and culture, but which paper is best for providing this level of education?

The Daily Mail newspaper holds more entertaining and informal stories, the newspaper looks more at celebrities, however there is also some aspects of cultural issues and current affairs. Therefore The Guardian is aimed at people with a higher level of education, as it is non-biased, it is informational/factual and it is also trustworthy.

4. How might news and feature articles along with comment pieces spark social interactions for people?

The news and the featured articles may spark social interactions with people as the news is  a good topic to talk about. Many people either read the news, watch the news or listen to the news. They will be able to talk about their opinions on multiple stories.
