Statement of intent

I will start the project by creating a website followed by a music video for an artist that I have created. Using the song ‘Most Girls’ by Hailee Steinfeld. I have chosen to use this song as it shows the features and conventions of the dance music genre.

The website will include: the name of the artist and a link to the music video (which is on YouTube), it will also have images of the artist and a distinctive font that will be used on the website. The website will feature a brief introduction about the artist, which will also contain ample amounts of images of the artist and the actors. The website will have multiple images and styles to distinguish them from other artists and create their own representation of themselves. The website will have links to the artist social media accounts, so that they can promote themselves and interact with their fans. The website that I am creating will contain a variety of images that includes a range of different camera shots, for example: Close-up shot (so the audience can clearly see the artist), low angle shot (to show the artist power), medium shot (so the audience gets a brief idea about the artists style). The website will also have the artist’s logo on it, which is an anchor with a rainbow rope around it. It also features the name of the artist ‘Ánkyra’. The website will feature hyperlinks to link pages together, so that the website will be adequate for its purpose. The links go to the artists social media accounts, tour dates and also the video. Social media accounts include: Instagram and Twitter, so that fans can talk to the artist and so that the artist is able to create a good bond between them and the audience/ fans.

The music video will be a performance piece as well as having a narrative. The actors in my music video will all be around the ages of 17-19, so that the video will be relatable to the target audience (16-15). All of the actors will be suitable in the video as they are again relatable to the audience. There will be dance music conventions throughout the music video. To create the video, I will be using different shots, so that it will become more personal to the audience (e.g. close-up). It will have a number of different girls dancing at different parts of the music video. I will make sire that my video is suitable for the target audient (16-25 AB demographic) by making sure that the video does not contain anything explicit, and also by making sure that it does not offend the audience through stereotyping. I will use a projector on a white wall to show a moving image of colours. I will also use a disco ball light to create a ‘party/clubbing’ scene effect. I will also film the majority of my shots in from of a white wall. I will also use a room that features a sofa with the artist sitting in it at the beginning of the video. I will edit the video to the beat of the music and have the dancers also dancing to the beat of the music, this is shown in other music videos of dance music, to show the narrative and also the performance aspect of the video. It will tell the story of the stereotypes of some girls and how they should ignore it and be themselves. In other dance music videos, the director includes lots of colour and people. I wanted to keep the aspect of having many people in video however, I wanted my video to stand out as it is not as colourful as others. My artist will not be shown much through the video, as I wanted to make the audience feel like she is just like them, in the sense of that she is just another stereotype.

The music video and the website will have the same colour scheme (as there will be a lot of white), it will also contain images of the artist and the actors, to show the closeness between the artist and the actors. My video will be linked on my website, so the audience can watch it, without leaving the website.
