The impact of technological change on newspapers. The Independent Newspaper: The paywall is being used in an attempt to protect revenue and profits for these companies. The Independent has a subscription, where you can subscribe to get more stories and more information on stories. This means that the customers will have to pay look at certain stories. By doing this they will have the opportunity to get profit for the online paper, so they will not loose revenue.  Newspapers prompt readers to interact with their online news by using social media (for example: Facebook and Twitter) to promote the online edition. This then gives them more potential customers, this therefore means that more people will want to buy the subscription for the newspaper to get access to the other online stories. The Independent is now an online newspaper, it has done this so that the audience are now active. Videos can now be uploaded by the audience, so all of the audience can be involved with the

The Big Issue Essay 2

Image
The Big Issue Essay Attempt 2 Use of Abba reference (Swedish pop group) Use of Personality (Nicola Sturgeon, David Cameron, Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage.) Use of images Use of text This issue of 'The Big Issue' uses the headline 'The winner takes it all' to reference the decision of the EU referendum and the news value outlines by Gallung and Ruge. They have used the Swedish band 'Abba' because they won the Eurovision in 1974. The use of their song lyrics and images in conjunction with the politician's used suggests that 'The big issue' is trying to mock the EU referendum. The politician's faces are not serious images which shows that 'The big issue' is again mocking them. Nicola Sturgeon is a Scottish politician that believes that we should not leave the EU. She also wanted Scotland to leave the United Kingdom, so that Scotland would have the opportunity to choose whether they left or stayed in the EU, however they did

Explain how the political context in which newspapers are produced, influences their ownership and regulation. 1. Explain the political significance of the concept of 'press freedom' and its r elationship to representative democracy. Why do you think freedom of the press is important? How much influence do you think the government should have about the things reported in the UK press? In my opinion the use of a free press has both positives and negatives, and therefore shouldn't be all self-regulated. The invasion of privacy of those in the public eye is becoming more common, with reporters taking stories too far and gaining private information. This is happening due to the demand the readers give, responding well to stories that seem exclusive. However, I feel that when a scoop is no longer in the public's interest then it shouldn't be printed and hence should be regulated, as reporters are gaining both unwanted informa tion and information which is t

*UPDATED* Comparison between 'Unfinished Sympathy' and 'burn the witch'

Image
Comparison between 'Unfinished Sympathy' and 'burn the witch' The song 'unfinished sympathy' by Massive Attack  is about the fear of getting hurt by someone you love. Whereas the song 'Burn the witch' by Radio Head is about not trusting people who could hurt you and blaming other people.  'Unfinished Sympathy' gives us the impression and message that we need to let go of things that are stopping us from doing what we want to do. That is why the music video is a tracking shot of her walking away (down the street). 'Burn the witch' gives the audience the message that everything you say and do can be held against you. People can lie and can change your words to bring you down, and make them more superior.  The music video to 'unfinished sympathy' shows Shara Nelson (the singer) walking down a busy street, with the camera using a tracking shot to follow her. This represents the song lyrics, as she is seen walking away at t

Source A: Amnesty International

Source A: Amnesty International Analyse how the creators of this advertisement have created meaning through the use of Media Language in this source by comparing it to the Shelter advertising campaign. The creators of this advertisement have showed their meaning through the image of a hand. The hand shows the peace sign, which may suggest that the company is for 'international' peace. The location of the hand and the barbed wire gives us the impression that the peace sign is cutting through the barbed wire, this may have been done because barbed wire traps things in an area, and stops things from getting in. Therefore they have used the image of the barbed wire getting cut to show freedom. In the logo the word 'international' stands out, as it is in a different colour compared to the other text. They have done this to show that the charity works in other places and helps everyone that is in need. The red hand may also symbolise blood, and danger. Howeve
