Stranger things: Age analysis

Image
Stranger things: Age analysis In the first clip of stranger things, the representation of age is shown through camera shots to show the stereotype of adults. A low angled shot was used where the adult (mum) was on the top of the stair and the children were at the bottom of them. The viewer was looking up at the adult with the children to the child's perspective. This shot was used to symbolize the authority and power of the adult. Over the shoulder shots were also used to show the child in between the adults (His mother and his father), this also shows the adults dominance over the children. The boy tries to ask his dad something but he tells him to 'listen to his mother' The mother/adults are also being responsible, as they send the kids home when it gets too late. In the second clip we watched the adults were represented differently from the adults in the first clip. The adult stereotype of being organised and responsible was presented differently in this scene,

Newspaper front pages about teenagers.

Image
Front pages about teenagers Daily Mail- The Headline on the front cover of this newspaper, can be taken in two perspectives, as the headline could mean that the teenagers are too young to be answering 'Life and death' calls. This may suggest that teenagers would not be able to do this work as sufficiently as 'adults'. The headline could also mean that the teenagers should be praised for answering 'life and death' calls, as it isn't very easy! Teenagers are usually stereotyped as being untrustworthy and irresponsible, this however shows them in a positive light. The Guardian-  The front cover of this newspaper is about children who have gone on a 'strike' and are roaming around the streets. The headline isn't against teenagers and they do not blame the children for what is happening. The Daily mail wouldn't have done a story based on this,as it isn't very interesting and it doesn't affect as many people, as a celebrity

Dr Foster and Top of the Lake

Dr Foster and Top of the Lake Who is the main character and how are they being represented through their character traits? How does this fit with your previous conceptions of female stereotypes? Research who produced and directed both shows and consider how this may alter the way the characters are constructed. Who is the target audience for these shows and how does this alter how they are being constructed by the director. Dr Foster The main character is a woman called 'Dr Foster'. She is being represented as being obsessed with finding out if her husband has been having an affair. She is also represented as being paranoid.  This fits with the conceptions of female stereotype as it shows that women are weak minded and become obsessed with things very easily. The directors were all male, which may suggest why the women were being shown that way. The Dr Foster series was aimed at women as it is emotional and also some women can relate to the series (A woman who

Representation of gender in text

Image
Representation of gender in text After watching episode 1 of the television series 'mad men', We can see that gender was portrayed as polar opposites in the 1960's (The time era of when it was set). Men had authority and power, and women were objects and the entertainment for the men. The clip that we watched showed how men and women treated each other. This was shown through: Camera, Sound, Editing and Mise-en-scene.  Camera: At the start of the clip there was a Bird's eye view shot ( an extreme high angle shot) of the exterior building, which was shown as an office type building with old fashioned cars that are parked outside of it. There are also close ups of the characters, which are of mainly women. This is because women are one of the main focuses and they were there to be looked at, and were judged on appearance and by how they acted.  Sound: Sound was used in multiple ways, for example a bird's eye view shot was shown, which had instrument
